Walking the Edge of Reality
A look behind the curtain to my world...
Michael Bay Blows Stuff Up
Wednesday, April 29, 2009 10:38 PM
Yeah, I know... I should put a giant "***SPOILER***" tag on the title... Sorry to ruin things.
Today I went to see a special screening of the original 2007 movie
Transformers
, as well as the new action-packed trailer for
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
.
The reason for the screening, so they say, is because they intend to re-release the original movie on IMAX.
Some people have asked me why I would do such a thing. OK, so the original movie is no
Citizen Kane
, but I have four reasons for seeing it:
1)
GIANT ROBOTS BLOW STUFF UP!!!
2) Megan Fox
3) Hey, FREE MOVIE!
4) Did I mention Megan Fox?
As part of the screening, Paramount is also having a contest: dress up as your favorite Autobot or Decepticon to one of these screenings and win a trip to the premiere in L.A. I was disappointed that only one person dressed up as Optimus Prime... but they were only 5' tall.... and had braids.
The trailer was interesting, and it reveals a lot more about the premise of the upcoming movie. Since no post about seeing something like this can't go without describing, I give you...
*** OMINOUS SPOILER TAG!!! ***
OK, so Sam's in college and Megan Fox looks really hot on a motorcycle. She's working, but of course barely has any clothes on while she's working
as a motorcycle mechanic
. I'm surprised her co-workers haven't lost limbs being distracted by her.
Then, while Sam unfolds clothing or something, a chunk of the All Spark falls to the floor; how he didn't notice THAT before is really beyond me, especially considering at least a year has gone by (he was an 11th grader in the first movie).
But, even though in the first movie Sam spends a good thirty minutes carrying around the All Spark like a football with no adverse effects, all of a sudden this tiny little shard starts giving him visions of a strange language. He gets up in the middle of the class to write them on a chalkboard. He carves them, each letter five feet across, in to the front lawn.
And then Optimus Prime, a thirty foot tall robot that walks through a park with the most natural of gaits, tells Sam "Uh... there's something we forgot to tell you."
Then some stuff blows up.
Hey look, meteors! (Michael Bay would have worked meteors in to
The Amityville Horror
if he could...).
Megatron is revived at the bottom of the ocean. He looks angry.
Then some more stuff blows up.
John Turturro makes a funny comment amount his mom.
Boom. Boom. Boom. You get the idea.
Then a giant vacuum cleaner inhales Optimus Prime. I can only assume the giant vacuum cleaner is
Voltron
Devastator; he has a giant turbine for a head and proceeds to inhale the Sahara desert like its snorting coke.
And I think there's an explosion somewhere near the end. I could be wrong.
The one glaring thing I noticed is that Jon Voight wasn't in the trailer. I love Jon Voight, to be honest, and can't think of anyone better than to play a hard-nosed, no nonsense Secretary of Defense.
Anyway, it was a pretty fun night.
-=O=-
One thing I did notice tonight.
Hugo Weaving
was the voice of Megatron. I didn't know that!
Now lets look at the movies Hugo's been in:
Transformers
The Matrix
(all three)
Lord of the Rings
(all three)
V for Vendetta
Holy crap! He is a GOD amongst geeks!!!
